First National Policy Dialogue on Social Protection kicked off in Calbayog City, Samar

Participants of the Policy Dialogue on Social Protection listen and discuss the results of the Policy Analysis conducted by INCITEGov, PLAN International and EV-NET.

 

July 6 marked the kick-off of the first National Policy Dialogue on Social Protection in Baypark Hotel, Calbayog City, Samar. Around 80 participants, composed of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), national and local government officials and congresspersons, came in the dialogue to discuss potential policy reforms towards improving Social Protection programs in the country.

The Dialogue, organized by the International Center for Innovation, Transformation and Excellence in Governance (INCITEGov), PLAN International, and Eastern Visayas Network of NGOs and POs (EVNet), aims to bring light to the issues faced by the marginalized, and seek guidance on how public policies on Social Protection may become more inclusive, responsive, and effective.

Congresspersons Ma. Lourdes Acosta-Alba, Teodoro Montoro, Edgar Sarmiento, Orestes Salon, and Florida P. Robes, Chair of the Committee on People's Participation, graced the program and provided their insights on what can be done in the policymaking level.

A portion of the Dialogue was allotted for discussions on the Bill on “Institutionalizing Cluster-based Programs and Projects through Inter-local Cooperation and People’s Participation”, results of the Policy Analysis conducted by the Project Team, and Labor Market Interventions in Samar.

The Policy Dialogue held was the first among the series of dialogues on Social Protection to be conducted in the country to assess and shape Social Protection policies.  A second and third Dialogue will be conducted in Luzon and Mindanao on August and September respectively.
